It was unexpected and blissfully functional, but with a nice amount of drama that is intense but doesn’t overpower the story, and a whole lot of sweet, swoony and sexy romance. Both well known in the series, I’ve been looking forward to reading their individual stories, so imagine my delight when I discovered that they hook up in this, their combined book! I absolutely love these two together, and I love their story. Book 3 in the Marked Men series brings us the story of big brother Archer, Rome, and feisty bombshell, Cora. ![]()

Description for The Lost Twin (Scarlet and Ivy) Paperback. ![]() ![]() “ careers reproduce the features of earlier mob leaders: failure in professional and social life, perversion and disaster in private life,” Hannah Arendt, author of the essential The Origins of Totalitarianism, wrote. This reality-television star, failed businessman, sexual predator, and hate-and-fear monger is clearly aiming for the fast track toward totalitarian rule. Racism, sexism, xenophobia and myriad other structural forms of hate are amplifying around the globe as a fascist authoritarian has ascended to the US presidency, the most powerful office in the world. The planet’s largest ecosystems are in free-fall collapse as ACD proceeds apace. Humans have changed the chemistry of the oceans and altered the very atmosphere of Earth. We are living in a time of the convergence of multiple cataclysmic forces: runaway anthropogenic climate disruption (ACD), chronic wars and the most grotesque economic inequality ever witnessed on Earth. What did you do when the earth was unraveling? ![]() What did you do while the planet was plundered? ![]() ![]() Over the years, the 56-year-old filmmaker has become more than a Troma provocateur or the former golden boy at Marvel Studios he’s become a thoughtful, capable storyteller through the projects he’s made, be they grody, goofy, or great. ![]() Gunn’s reticence would seem to dim the prospects for Superman: Legacy.īut Gunn is selling himself short. since Man of Steel muscled its way into theaters 10 years ago. “Especially not something of this magnitude.” That’s not exactly a reassuring display of confidence for fans who have waited (and waited) for a new solo Superman film to spring forth from Warner Bros. ![]() “Just because I write something doesn’t mean I feel it in my bones, visually and emotionally, enough to spend over two years directing it,” he said on Twitter. Gunn, known for his frankness on social platforms, previously admitted a hesitancy to direct the film. But when James Gunn took to social media in early March to announce he would direct Superman: Legacy, the first major film in the new DC Studios initiative devised by himself and producer Peter Safran, the news came as a complicated surprise to fans - and, it seems, to the filmmaker himself. With hindsight, this feels like it was inevitable. ![]() ![]() Though a pious member of her family’s otherwise all-white church as a child, Gifty struggles with a loss of faith, efforts to coax her mother back to life, and the alienation she finds in even her closest relationships as she attends Harvard and moves on to graduate school. Known as the Mysterium, a special group of dogs have evolved human levels of intelligence, but with no verbal means to communicate. A golden retriever named Kipp meets a genius-level autistic boy named Woody Bookman, and their relationship propels the evolution of an extraordinary means of communicating. He develops the idea of a telepathic connection between the species, evolving after our long relationship, aiding each others’ survival and well being. In Devoted, Koontz explores the connection between dogs and man. See my earlier review of Koontz’s Jane Hawk series, as well. He is not unrealistic, however bad things happen to good people, and sometimes they have to pay a great price for their heroic efforts. Bad guys get the consequences they deserve, good guys typically succeed at thwarting evil, and protecting the innocent. He is obviously a moral writer, without being preachy. ![]() Beyond this, his books have a moral grounding, are thematically rooted with a particular philosophy. Part thrilling suspense, part science fiction, Koontz is a master of creating believable characters, and setting multiple plots in motion that converge and collide in unpredictable ways that keep the reader rapidly turning pages, craving a satisfactory end to the roller coaster ride. Koontz’s novels defy pigeon-holing in one genre. ![]() ![]() I picked Heat Wave up on July 2nd and finished it this morning. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. ![]() There was a cliffhanger ending to the second book that left me with hives and my jaw on the floor. Additionally, I was having a lot of fun just being back with the characters I had grown to love. While it started out a little slow, by about 40% we started getting some startling new revelations that really helped to build the intensity. The second book in the series, Flash Fire, which I read in 2021, wasn't quite all the stars for me like the first book, but I still really, really enjoyed it. It was such a fun story and concept, with a great friendship group at the middle. It was my first time reading from this author and I loved how rapid-fire and intelligent the writing was. When I read the first book in this series, The Extraordinaries, in 2020, I was blown away. ![]() I feel let down after anticipating this release for so long.
